We have been researching this in class but have been unable to find any concrete evidence that this was fact. We decided that it must be a myth. How did this myth get started?

Is the Philadelphia Experiment Fact or Myth?

It is alleged that in June of 1943 the USS Eldridge did -among other things -completely dematerialise in front of the disbelieving eyes of US Navy top brass who were overseeing an experiment using electromagnetism to try and make ships invisible to enemy radar,apparently they got more than they bargained for and the ship disappeared completely for fifteen minutes from optical view as well!
