what do i need to do before starting double axel?
Ok I have been taking group lessons in ice skating for about a year now. I can do a lot of things but I don’t know which level would be best for me. Thats where you guys come in lol. Ok I can do a spiral, bunny hop, backward crossovers, frontward crossovers, 1 foot glide, outside edges, inside edges, 2 foot spin ( not that great) lunge, chiense spiral, latitude, ( but I can’t seem to get my leg to my knee if u know what I mean) 3 turn, 1 turn, backward 1 foot glide, waltz jump, side hop and I think thats about it, so what level like AMERICAN LEVEL not UK level would I be in? also, I can do my 1 foot glide and hold it for about 3 minutes, yes very long! in ice skating camp they were teaching us Mohawks and salchow but I can’t do that yetattitude sorry not latitude
what level would I be in ice skating?
I started skating in February and I love it! I am currently on level 9 in the Skate Uk beginner scheme, and am also working on waltz/3 jump, salchow and toe loop. I only skate once a week, for 2 hours at a time. Is this good progress? Where could I be by the end of the year? What would you expect?
Progress in figure skating after 7 months?
I need some new blades to go with the new boots I just got (GAM Celebrite), and I don’t have very much money to spend. Right now I only have $63. Are these blades good or should I wait and get GAM G3 or Ultima Protege Blades. http://www.shop.kinziescloset.com/product.sc?categoryId=48productId=512 I am working on stuff such as: salchow, loop, half flip (normal, stag, and split), half lutz, toe loop, waltz jump, ballet jump, two-foot spin, one-foot spin, scratch spin, back spin, sit spin, lunges, spirals, Ina Bauer, and shoot-the-duck. This is just things I’ve learned in my freestyle class, not necessarily stuff I can do or do well.
Are ISE Sterling Blades any good?
It is the Olympic men’s figure skating. Out comes the Russian competitor, he skates around to some classical music in a slightly dull costume, performs some excellent leaps but without any great artistic feel for the music. The Judges’ scores read: Britain 5.8: Russia 5.9: United States 5.5: Ireland 6.0 Next comes the American competitor in a sparkling stars and stripes costume, skating to some rock and roll music. He gets the crowd clapping, but is not technically as good as the Russian. He slightly misses landing a triple Salchow and loses the center during a spin. But, artistically, it is a more satisfying performance. The Judges’ scores read: Britain 5.8: Russia 5.5: United States 5.9: Ireland 6.0 Finally out comes the Irish competitor wearing a tatty old donkey jacket, with his skates tied over his wellies. He reaches the ice, trips straight away and bangs his nose which starts bleeding. He tries to get up, staggers a few paces then slips again. He spends his entire ‘routine’ getting up then falling over again. Finally he crawls off the ice a tattered and bleeding mess. The Judges’ scores read: Britain 0.0: Russia 0.0: United States 0.0: Ireland 6.0 The other 3 judges turn to the Irish judge and demand in unison, “How can you give that mess 6.0?!” To which the Irish judge replies “You’ve gotta remember, it’s pretty slippery out there.” ——- Young O’Donnell rushed into a church, placed his rifle under a pew and entered the confessional. “Father,” he said breathlessly, “I’ve just shot down two British lieutenants!” Hearing no response he went on: “I also knocked off a British captain!” When there was still no response from the priest, O’Donnell said, “Father, have ye fainted?” “Of course I haven’t fainted,” replied the confessor. “I’m waitin’ for you to stop talkin’ politics and commence confessin’ your sins!” —— Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and says to the first man he meets, “Do you want to go to heaven?” The man said, “I do Father.” The priest said, “Then stand over there against the wall.” Then the priest asked the second man, “Do you want to got to heaven?” “Certainly, Father,” was the man’s reply. “Then stand over there against the wall,” said the priest. Then Father Murphy walked up to O’Toole and said, “Do you want to go to heaven?” O’Toole said, “No, I don’t Father.” The priest said, “I don’t believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don’t want to go to heaven?” O’Toole said, “Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now.” —- An Irishman had been drinking at a pub all night. The bartender finally said that the bar was closing. So the Irishman stood up to leave and fell flat on his face. He tried to stand one more time; same result. He figured he’ll crawl outside and get some fresh air and maybe that will sober him up. Once outside he stood up and fell flat on his face. So he decided to crawl the 4 blocks to his home. When he arrived at the door he stood up and again fell flat on his face. He crawled through the door and into his bedroom. When he reached his bed he tried one more time to stand up. This time he managed to pull himself upright, but he quickly fell right into bed and was sound asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow. He was awakened the next morning to his wife standing over him, shouting, “So, you’ve been out drinking again!” “What makes you say that?” he asked, putting on an innocent look. “The pub called — you left your wheelchair there again.”
Can we have some applause for the Irish jokes now? lol?
okay so i have been skating for almost 10 years and i had to take a year off because i had some knee problems from landing on my knees too much while learning my axel. but i go back really soon and im so excited but idk if im gunna be able to do everything i used to be able to do! im still pretty flexible..i have been stretching but idk if i should do anything else this is what i was cable to do.. spins: camel, scratch, back, sit, pancake, dohnut, bielmann spin (kinda-ish), layback jumps: waltz, salchow, flip, loop, lutz, split, working on axels i had very good spirals and my lunges i could turn into splits and the bielmann spiral was one of my best. i miss skating and i know i have a calling because this is kinda cool but i go to the same skating rink nancy kerrigan used to go to (stoneham ice arena) and she was attacked two days after i was born. i found this very ironic but i know skating is my calling and i miss it andi really need to get back into skape..please help??ive also had some knee problems and idk why but my mom says i probably pulled a muscle but its been hurting for a month now almost and i didnt do anything it just started hurting while i was walkin to a friends house :/

3 questions -how does a single salchow work? -how does a single toe loop work? -and what would be the easiest jump besides 2 foot and bunnyhop in ice skating? sorry if these questions seem dumb ut when people in videos describe a toe loop they look really hard.

Is too late to Figure skating ?
I’m a figure skater and I really want to join disney on ice in two years but I want to know more about it. I really don’t want to spend a lot of time away from home because I’m planing on getting married in three years. How often does Disney travel? Are there other companies I should consider joining? I’ve only been skating for a year and a half so I don’t know much about all of the different oportunities avaliable to figure skaters. (oh and I do think I’m pretty good for the time that I’ve been skating,I can land my axel and can almost land double salchow and double loop)
The salchow is a figure skating jump with a takeoff from a back inside edge and landing on the back outside edge of the opposite foot after one or more rotations in the air. It was invented by the Swedish skater Ulrich Salchow in 1909.
The salchow is normally approached from a forward outside 3 turn, on the left foot for a counterclockwise jump. On the left back inside edge after the turn, the skater checks the rotation momentarily with the right foot extended behind, then initiates the jump by swinging the right leg forward and around with a wide scooping motion. The rotational momentum for the jump is gained by the swinging movement of the free leg and the coordination of the free leg and arms at the point of takeoff.
The salchow can alternately be entered from an inside mohawk turn or from back crossovers. As an edge jump, it is usually performed on a circular pattern instead of from a straight-line approach.
Occasionally, the salchow is performed as the second or third jump in a jump combination, following a one-foot axel or half loop, which land on a back inside edge.
The mechanics of a single salchow are quite similar to those of the waltz jump, the half-rotation jump from a forward outside edge. The salchow is therefore usually the first full-rotation jump taught to beginning figure skaters. It teaches the skater to check his or her turn and how to jump off the edge rather than the toe pick.
An alternate technique used by many skaters on the takeoff for multi-rotation (especially triple and quadruple) salchow jumps is to allow the free foot (the right foot for a counterclockwise jumper) to rest on the ice while bringing it around to the front, instead of using the scooping motion. Sometimes this is merely the result of a deep knee bend on the takeoff leg. While salchows performed with this technique have been ratified by the International Skating Union in recent years, some skating purists object to it because in some cases it is clear that the skater is gaining material assist into the jump from pushing off the supposed “free foot”, instead of merely skimming it over the ice. For example, Sonia Bianchetti, former chair of the ISU Technical Committee, has referred to the two-footed salchow entry as “a severe error for which a steep deduction had to be applied by the judges”. The two-footed salchow entry is also confusing to spectators because the resulting jump can more strongly resemble a loop jump or toe loop jump than a traditional salchow.
A variant of the salchow that is rarely performed today is the one-foot salchow, which lands on the same back inside edge used for the jump takeoff, much like a half loop or one-foot axel. The one-foot salchow can be used in a jump combination followed by a regular salchow jump. For example, in the 1970’s, Canadian skater Toller Cranston sometimes performed a jump combination consisting of a one-foot axel, one-foot double salchow, and regular double salchow.
Ulrich Salchow invented the jump that bears his name in 1909. Theresa Weld was the first female skater to perform it, at the 1920 Summer Olympics; she was reprimanded for attempting anything so “unladylike”, but that did not stop other female skaters from performing jumps.
Double salchows were first performed by Gillis Grafstrom for men in the 1920’s, and Cecilia Colledge for women in the late 1930’s.
The first triple salchow was landed by Ronnie Robertson at the 1955 World Figure Skating Championships. The first by a woman was by Petra Burka at the 1962 Canadian Championships; the latter was also the first triple jump of any kind landed by a woman.
Timothy Goebel is recognized to have landed the first quadruple salchow at the 1998 Junior Series Final. Goebel’s jump, however, used the aforementioned controversial two-footed salchow technique. The first successful quadruple salchow in competition with an indisputably clean takeoff was probably that by Li Chengjiang at the 2001 ISU Four Continents Championships. The first (and, so far, only) female skater to have landed a quadruple salchow in competition was Miki Ando at the 2002 Junior Grand Prix Final.
The first throw quadruple salchow pair element was performed on November 17, 2007 by Tiffany Vise and Derek Trent of the United States at the 2007 Trophee Eric Bompard competition.
Ulrich Salchow’s surname was reportedly pronounced “sal-kov”, but the name of the jump is invariably pronounced as either “sal-kow” (in North America) or “sal-koh” (in Europe).
Skaters sometimes abbreviate the name of the salchow to either sal or sow.
